Flooring made of natural materials, including those that are waterproof, is always popular. But synthetic materials that mimic the look of high-end hardwood, stone, and ceramic flooring are just as likely to be on a homeowner's 'must-have' list. Laminate and luxury vinyl are two of these materials. Hessler Floor Covering offers a variety of trendy waterproof floor coverings. Our three showrooms in southwest Florida are located in Punta Gorda, Fort Myers, and Naples.
Natural tile materials
Naturally waterproof porcelain tile, available in an abundant number of designs, is the most durable kind of tile. Wood-look porcelain tile is particularly trendy since homeowners can install it in moisture-prone spaces. While natural stone floors must be sealed periodically to remain waterproof, stone-look porcelain tile is maintenance-free. Ceramic tile is a less costly clay-based flooring material. Ceramic is naturally porous and must be glazed to repel water.
Synthetic tile materials
Waterproof laminate flooring can tolerate moisture for up to one day. In contrast, vinyl flooring won't sustain damage even if it is wet for long periods. Laminate or vinyl plank flooring is favored, in part, by many homeowners because the interlocking planks can be installed over existing hard surface flooring. As a result, distressed and wire-brushed luxury vinyl plank, or LVP, is in vogue. Marble, travertine, and slate are three of the most popular LVT flooring styles.
